Dedicated by the Claiborne County Board of Education, the Dayton Parkey Memorial Collection: Claiborne County, Tennessee Colored Schools. Dayton Parkey, a resident of Tazewell and graduate of Claiborne County High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College where he was a four year letter winner in basketball. After graduating in 1983, Dayton taught and coached in the Claiborne County School System from 1984 until 2014. During his professional career, he was selected by the National Science Consortium for the applications and problem-solving project. He also served on the Tennessee State Board of Education's Lifetime Wellness Standards Revision Committee. He earned his Masters degree in Education Administration and Supervision from LMU in 2005 and his Ed.S. from Lincoln Memorial University in 2008 in administration and supervision.
