Bristol was home to a very populated and thriving black business district. The segregated district included doctos, dentists, lawyers, restaurateurs, barbers, and more. These businesses and practices can be distinguished in city directories, due to such places being noted as "c" for colored. The business district eventually dwindled, especially with desgregation, and the ability for African Americans to shop and enter other establishments.
